One of the satellites operated by Telkomsat, namely the Telkom-2 Satellite, has now stopped operating. In the early hours of June 13, 2021, the Telkom-2 Satellite has been successfully de-orbited. This process is the end of a long journey of satellite control, namely the process of moving the satellite from its orbital location to out and away from orbit as far as 300 kilometers.

The Telkom-2 Satellite De-Orbit process takes approximately 2 weeks, starting from the first maneuver on Monday, May 31, 2021 until turning off the flight software on June 13, 2021.

According to the CEO of the Telkom Group, Ririek Adriansyah, at the Syukuran De-Orbit Satelit Telkom 2, the Telkom-2 Satellite has completed its mission successfully and currently De-Orbit has been carried out in accordance with applicable regulations and when De-Orbit is in in good condition and has sufficient fuel.

In addition, he also thanked the teams on duty since the Telkom-2 Satellite was still operating until the De-Orbit was completed. "We would like to thank all the teams in charge of operating and supervising the Telkom-2 Satellite to the maximum, even exceeding its operational life," said Ririek Adriansyah.

Closing his directive, Ririek Adriansyah advised Telkomsat to always prepare for the regeneration of talented talents in the satellite field in order to continue the future of Telkomsat.

CEO of Telkomsat, Endi Fitri Herlianto, has prepared a Satellite Roadmap for the next 5 years. "From 2020 to 2025 there are several plans that must be prepared, one of which is the procurement of HTS satellites in the 113° East orbital slot. We do this so that Telkomsat becomes a big company and has global competitiveness.” explained to the invited guests.

Indonesia's Pride Satellite

Since its launch on November 16, 2005, the Telkom-2 Satellite has become the pride of the Indonesian people. This is because Indonesia is one of the developing countries that has its own satellite since the launch of the Palapa A1 Satellite on July 8, 1976. In fact, Indonesia is listed as the third country in the world, which has a Domestic Satellite Communication System (SKSD) which at that time was limited to only television and SLJJ in 40 cities in Indonesia.

This satellite made by Orbital Sciences Corporation is a replacement for the Palapa B-4 Satellite. As for the launch, Telkom Indonesia entrusts Arianespace France. The Telkom-2 satellite orbits at 118 east longitude with a capacity of 24 C-Band transponders and weighs more than 1.9 tons.

Support Various Telecommunication Services

Telkom-2 satellite, can support two types of Telkom's main services. First, commercial services. This service includes backbone transmission (SLJJ, SLI, Internet), access network and VSAT business for Enterprise as well as broadcasting. Second, the Telkom-2 Satellite also supports the increase in telephone density and the distribution of telephones, both fixed wireline and fixed wireless telephones throughout Indonesia. The scope of this service includes remote areas to provide Universal Service Obligations (USO) in villages that have not been reached by telecommunications facilities.

Helping the National Economy

The existence of the Telkom-2 Satellite encourages and awakens the wheels of the national economy in general and in particular in remote areas that previously could not be reached by telecommunication services. This can be seen from the increasing volume of phone usage.

In addition, the existence of this satellite can support banking, trade, government, education, defense, security and entertainment transactions that are needed by people in various parts of the country.

Satellite Traffic Migration Process

On April 12, 2021, the Telkom-2 Satellite carried out the last series of De-Orbit processes, namely traffic migration to the Telkom-3S Satellite and the Merah Putih Satellite. This migration process is carried out by experienced young workers from Telkomsat.

The traffic migration process on the Telkom-2 Satellite that has been successfully carried out indicates that the service period of the Telkom-2 Satellite for more than 15 years to unite telecommunications in Indonesia has been completed.

Thank you Satellite Telkom-2
