Cibinong - In support of the launch of the Merah Putih 2 Satellite by PT Telkom Indonesia (persero) Tbk (Telkom) through one of its subsidiaries, Telkomsat, TelkomGroup organized a viewing party that took place at the Satellite Master Control Station, on Wednesday (21/2).

The event was attended by the entire board of directors and was officially opened by the CEO of Telkom Indonesia, Ririek Adriansyah, and the Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, via a virtual conference.

"Through the launch of the Merah Putih 2 Satellite, TelkomGroup is not only making a significant contribution to the technological advancement of Indonesia but also opening up vast opportunities for the economic sector," said Kartika.

The viewing party served as a form of appreciation for the hard work done by TelkomGroup, especially Telkomsat. A communal prayer was also held to support the successful launch of the Merah Putih 2 Satellite from Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA.

The Merah Putih 2 Satellite was successfully launched using a Falcon 9 rocket on Wednesday morning around 03:11 WIB and will occupy the orbital slot at 113 degrees East longitude (113BT). This satellite represents a collaboration between Telkomsat and Thales Alenia Space, the main contractor for the Merah Putih 2 satellite responsible for its design, construction, testing, and delivery to the launch site in Cape Canaveral.

"Alhamdulillah, the Merah Putih 2 Satellite was launched smoothly today. This is an important milestone for TelkomGroup, especially in supporting the realization of equitable access to connectivity across Indonesia, including in 3T areas. The existence of the Merah Putih 2 Satellite also strengthens the satellite business portfolio of TelkomGroup managed by Telkomsat," said CEO of Telkom, Ririek Adriansyah, from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The Merah Putih 2 Satellite uses the Spacebus 4000B2 platform with a service life of 15 years. With a capacity of up to 32Gbps, the Merah Putih 2 carries active transponders for C-band and Ku-band frequencies, which will cover the entire area of Indonesia. The satellite also performs exceptionally well in high rainfall conditions, making it highly suitable for Indonesia, a country with high rainfall. Telkom invested more than Rp 3.5 trillion in building this satellite.

The Merah Putih 2 Satellite is scheduled to begin operations in April 2024 and will contribute to Indonesia's digital equality by providing satellite-based backhaul services and serving as an enabler for business solutions, especially in unserved and underserved areas.
