Telkomsat with the Institute for Aviation and Space (LAPAN) and Telkom University (Tel-U) are collaborating in the development and commercialization of low-obit satellite mission products. This collaboration aims to utilize resources and competencies in the planning, development and testing of Low Orbit Satellites. The three of them work together on the manufacture, launch and operation of the Low Orbit Satellite.

This collaboration was marked by the signing of a cooperation contract by Endi Fitri Herlianto as the CEO Telkomsat, Prof. Dr. Erna Sri Adiningsih, as the Main Secretary of LAPAN and Prof. Dr. Adiwijaya, S.Si., M.Sc., as the Rector of Telkom University. This contract is carried out directly at the Head Office of Satellite Technology LAPAN Jalan Cagak Satelit No. 8 KM. 0.4 Rancabungur, Bogor on March 25, 2021.

In his remarks, CEO Telkomsat, Endi Fitri Herlianto, revealed that Telkomsat is ready to collaborate to provide the best for the Indonesian nation, so as to encourage the creation of equitable development and digital equity.

"Telkomsat as the market leader in the satellite business, by operating 3 communication satellites, is obliged to be the pioneer of digital development and equity in Indonesia. In business terms, the demand in Indonesia already exists, we must start gradually to let go of dependence on telecommunication services that have been provided by foreigners." Said Endi Fitri Herlianto.

The same thing was also expressed by the Chancellor of Tel-U, Prof. Dr. Adiwijaya, S.Si., M.Sc., According to him, "This collaboration is one of the pioneers of the implementation process in order to build a good Indonesia. In a collaboration, there will always be opportunities for us, collaboration is needed by this nation to encourage technological independence. With this innovation collaboration, it is hoped that together you can create a Advanced Indonesia."

According to the Main Secretary of Lapan, Prof. Dr. Erna Sri Adiningsih, said "This agreement is a concrete step and an important milestone for the government in development, especially in space science and technology. It is hoped that this can realize hopes for the national interest starting from the development stage to the downstreaming of satellite technology that focuses on the communication side. In the future, it is hoped that with this collaboration between government, academia and industry, technology development in Indonesia will no longer be dominated by the government."

Closing the conversation, Prof. Dr. Erna Sri Adiningsih, said LAPAN is ready to advance development sectors based on science and technology, aviation and space so that it is hoped that it can begin to define the needs of the nation and begin to be separated from outside services.

As is known, this memorandum of understanding is effective for the next 2 (two) years from the time the memorandum of understanding was signed. The memorandum of understanding includes research, mastery, development and utilization of space and atmospheric science, aviation and space technology, and remote sensing to support TIMES services.

Low Orbit Constellation Satellite Mission
The memorandum of understanding is aimed at developing Machine to Machine (M2M) and Internet of Thing (IoT) communications, data communication infrastructure for early warning and disasters, as well as maritime & air surveillance needed by Indonesia. On the other hand, this collaboration will also save foreign exchange costs for satellite-based communications of up to USD 112 per year and will independently grow the satellite-based disaster sensor industry in Indonesia.

Indonesian Presidential Instruction
The collaboration between Telkomsat, LAPAN and Tel-U is an instruction from the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) some time ago, that Indonesia as a country with abundant natural resources is expected to be able to master and utilize technology wisely, so that it can provide maximum benefits. for the people in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0. This is to bring Indonesia to shift from an economy based on commodities to an economy based on innovation and technology.

With this synergy, it is hoped that Telkomsat will strengthen the role of Telkomsat as a supporter in the progress of the national digital economy and strengthen Telkomsat as the market leader in the satellite business in Indonesia.
